Teaching Assistant Orientations

At Caltech, a Teaching Orientation is required for all Teaching Assistants prior to or at the start of their first appointment. First-year graduate students entering Caltech in the Fall are automatically registered for the Teaching Conference as part of their orientation week which satisfies this requirement.

For all other students, the Caltech Introduction to University Teaching Program fulfills the institute’s TA Orientation requirement and serves as an introduction to teaching at the university level.
The program consists of three steps:

1) RSVP for an in-person session via a survey link you will receive from your Option Administrator or from CTLO

2) Before your scheduled in-person session, complete the Online Policies Module via the link you receive after RSVP-ing.

3) Attend and actively participate in the in-person session.
Completion of both the Online Policies Module and the in-person meeting with CTLO staff are required to successfully complete the Caltech Introduction to University Teaching Program and fulfill the TA Orientation requirement.
